Education
This 3D object allows us to see in 360-degree view the Coronation of the Virgin from Nicola da Guardiagrele, who was the leading goldsmith and sculptor in the first half of the fifteenth century in Abruzzo.
Social and cultural aspects
Nicola da Guardiagrele stood out as the most talented goldsmith during the first half of the fifteenth century in Abruzzo. He left his signature on complex silver works such as the ostensory in the Tesoro di San Franco at Francavilla al Mare (1413) and the antependium in the Cathedral of Teramo (1433-1448), adorned with narrative panels in high relief and translucid enamels. A versatile artist, Nicola is documented also as a painter (a Madonna and Child from him is in the Galleria degli Uffizi in Florence) and a stone sculptor. The Coronation of the Virgin, formerly above the portal of the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in the artist’s hometown, is now preserved in the local Diocese Museum as one of Nicola’s most important stone sculptures.
