Education
This 3D object can contribute to deepening the knowledge of Andrea Delitio, one of the most intriguing and talented Renaissance painters in Abruzzo.
Social and cultural aspects
This lovely diptych is preserved in the Museo Nazionale d’Abruzzo at L’Aquila. It was discovered by the art historian Enzo Carli (1942); at that time the painting was abandoned upon a wardrobe in the sacristy of the Church of Santa Maria La Nuova at Cellino Attanasio, a small town in the province of Teramo. The left panel presents the Madonna and Child with St. Catherine of Alexandria while the right panel hosts the Crucifixion of Christ. Its author is Andrea Delitio, the most talented Abruzzese painter at the middle of the fifteenth century. His style is reminiscent of Sienese Renaissance painting, albeit refashioned in a very original way.
