Castelli, a small town in the province of Teramo, stood out as one of the most important centres for the artistic ceramic production since the Renaissance period. Local families like the Grue, the Gentili, the Fuina, and the De Dominicis produced pharmacy jars, apothecary vases, plates, and figurative tiles both for everyday use and for noble patrons such as the Colonna and the Orsini. Nowadays, objects form Castelli’s workshops are collected by museums worldwide, from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York to the Hermitage State Museum in Saint Petersburg.
