Statue of Queen Urraca located next to the Plaza de San Marcelo (León, Spain). Urraca was the successor of Alfonso VI and mother of Alfonso VII. She reigned from 1109 to 1126 and became the queen owner of the Kingdom of León, which was a milestone in the history of the West.
Social and cultural aspects
The statue (2019) was made in artificial stone by Juan de la Cuenca and the Centro de los Oficios del Ayuntamiento de León. The gaze of the statue is directed towards the Basilica of San Isidoro, as Doña Urraca was the protector of this building and its Royal Pantheon.
