Education
The 3D object is provided with five interactive captions associated to as many points of interest of the sculptural group – in order to stress, for example, some technical aspects, like the carving of the mother and the child in the same wooden block. These captions contribute to make this 3D object an efficient educational tool.
Social and cultural aspects
This Madonna and Child, conserved in the Museo Nazionale d’Abruzzo at L’Aquila, is by the still anonymous artist conventionally referred to as the Master of the Gualino St. Catherine, after a statue of that saint formerly in the collection of Riccardo Gualino in Turin. The catalogue of this intriguing artist, active in Umbria and Abruzzo at the beginning of the fourteenth century, was reconstructed starting from the 1960s through the research of Giovanni Previtali, Enzo Carli and others. The elegant, elongated figures by this artist are among the most representative artistic products of the Trecento in this area. Some of his sculptures are still preserved in situ, like for example the Madonna and Child in the Cathedral of Teramo.
