Education
Careto is a masked character from the carnival of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, Portugal. He is a man who wears a mask with a protruding nose made of leather, brass, or wood painted brightly in yellow, red, or black.
Social and cultural aspects
The carnival of Podence is an elegy of movement. On the big days of the festival - Fat Sunday and Shrove Tuesday - the Caretos only stop for refreshments or to combine another attack on the Largo da Capela, the small village square where the local people and a handful of curious outsiders gather to watch the ritual.
