Frescoed column of the Atri Cathedral

Education
Atri Cathedral is the work of Raimondo di Poggio and Rainaldo d'Atri, who began it around 1264, replacing the Ecclesia de Atri, a five-nave Romanesque church built in the 9th century. It was completed in 1305. Inside, the vision offered by the Coro dei Canonici with its walls frescoed by Andrea de Litio (1465-1471) is admirable. It constitutes not only the painter's immortal masterpiece, but the largest pictorial work of the early Renaissance in Abruzzo, demonstrating the results that innovative Florentine ideas could achieve, outside of Tuscany, in a region, in the Neapolitan kingdom, very sensitive to the evolution of styles and forms.
