Wine Barrel

Education
Many of the world's great wines are aged in barrels, a process that contributes to the wine's aging and refinement, while also having an impact on aromas and flavors. But the barrel's role is not restricted to that. For a long time they were also used as the main container for transporting wines. Port wine is of Portuguese origin and maintains the tradition of being aged in wooden barrels. It is suitable to promote viticulture and wine stored in Barrel ("Pipas") in Portugal's farmland.
Social and cultural aspects
Everything indicates that the creators of wooden barrels would have been the Celts. Findings at the archaeological site of La Têne, in what is now Switzerland, show that wood had already been worked on since the fifth century BC. With the Roman expansions towards Central and Northern Europe, technology would have been absorbed from the beginning of the Christian era. Celtic barrels, identified in archaeological sites, already included metal belts, an advance that was only possible with the refinement of the technology for using iron.
