Education
The 3D object is provided with eight interactive captions associated to as many points of interest of the statue – in order to stress, for example, the presence of an inscription that bore the name of the warrior. These captions contribute to make this 3D object an efficient educational tool.
Social and cultural aspects
This monumental stone statue, datable to the sixth century BC, is one of the most important archeological finds of this region as well as a masterpiece of Italic art. It was excavated in 1934 in a necropolis in the vicinity of Capestrano, in the province of L’Aquila, and it is now preserved in the Museo Archeologico Nazionale d’Abruzzo – Villa Frigeri in Chieti. The so-called Capestrano Warrior – a vestige of the pre-Roman, Italic past of this area – shows a man of the highest social rank wearing an armor, equipped with an axe and a sword, while two spears are carved on the columns at either side of the figure. A partly spoiled inscription runs on the left column.
